Back Country Recreation
The West Kootenay’s abound with endless back country opportunities. In fact, the Redfish FSR which transects the Property, continues another 20km into the alpine elevations. Once there, enthusiasts will find trails leading to old mining cabins, small lakes and mountain tops nearing 7000′ elevation. The Redfish Drainage is used year-round by outdoorsmen for hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, ATVing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and the like.
Kokanee Creek Provincial Park
Kokanee Creek Park is located along Highway 3A, approximately half-way between the Property and Nelson. The cornerstone of Kokanee Creek Park is the provincial campground fronting the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. The full service campground is accompanied by an incredible sandy beach and boat launch facility.
The park provides access to more than 32,000 hectares of spectacular mountain wilderness. The Gibson Lake Trail Head is about 16km from the highway.
Kootenay Lake is a large lake, with almost 300km of lakeshore. It is fed primarily from the south by the Kootenay River, and from the north by the Duncan River. It drains through the West Arm of the lake, starting at Balfour and continuing to Nelson. Between Nelson and Castlegar, it reverts back to river status and there are numerous hydro-electric dams creating power. At Castlegar, the Kootenay River joins the Columbia River System.
Kootenay lake does not freeze in the winter, while in the summertime, it warms to a pleasant 70-73°F. Its water is crystal clear, making it one of the cleanest recreational lakes of BC. Summertime activities include boating, sailing, swimming and the like.
If fishing is your sport, then Kootenay Lake is the place to start. It is home to the world famous Gerrard Rainbow Trout, the largest species of the trout family.
For those that enjoy overnighting by the lake, there are numerous public beaches and campgrounds to choose from.
The Kootenay Ferry is a free ferry ride crossing Kootenay Lake between Balfour and Kootenay Bay.

Less than one hour from Nelson, Whitewater Ski Hill offers exhilarating groomed runs and nordic trails for all levels of users.
